Hannah Bethel is that rare artist that blurs lines between Country, Americana, Rock and Pop. Her musical artistry is a reflection of who she is: a fierce, independent, wild, free and untamed spirit.
After dedicating her life to music, Bethel has now risen to claim her place at the vanguard of independent singer/songwriters in Nashville’s vibrant music scene. Her music captures the essence of her signature sound by blending elements of the many genres and styles that have influenced her writing and creative expression. Being fearless and unafraid to bare her deepest feelings in her songs is a reflection of her lifestyle, from solo backpacking in the deserts of Arizona and the mystical Joshua Tree, to hiking snow-peaked mountains in Alaska, Bethel lives her life to the fullest. She has experienced deep love, great loss and the healing power of personal growth and redemption – and she translates those life experiences to listeners though her songs, music videos and live performances.
Bethel was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where as a child she studied dance and appeared in theater performances. She attended elementary school in nearby Oakfield, before moving to Houghton, Michigan where she went to middle and high school. She grew up listening to Country and Seventies Rock music. Drawing on influences from Tom Petty, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Willie Nelson, among others, she spent her teenage years traveling the upper Midwest performing at fairs, bars, talent shows, coffee houses, shopping malls and Country Western shows. She self-released her first record at age 17, and the following year she moved to Nashville.
Bethel released three more albums after coming to Nashville. These projects received international airplay and her music videos were featured on The Country Network, GACTV.com, CMT.com and hundreds of retail outlets across the US and led her to receive acclaim from renowned publications including Billboard, The Washington Post, Maverick Magazine, MusicRow Magazine, CMA Close Up, and others.
Bethel’s career trajectory took a sharp upward turn following the release of her single and video “Train” in October, 2018. A deeply personal song, “Train” was the beginning of a new chapter in her musical career, and one that saw her firmly taking the reins of her musical expression and how it is produced and presented. The visually stunning video, filmed in the mountains of west Texas, premiered at The Boot, and the single made its airwaves debut across multiple genre radio stations, including Lightning 100, Nashville’s long-running independent outlet known for playing groundbreaking Indie Rock and Alt Country music, and on Music City’s WSM Radio, arguably the definitive Country music station in America.
In quick succession, Bethel and “Train” were selected as a CMT Music “Artist Discovery” where Bethel and “Train” were featured across all CMT broadcast, online and social media platforms. “Train” then spent four consecutive weeks in the fan-voted weekly “12 Pack Countdown” in January and February, 2019 against stiff competition from several major label artists.
Bethel was also recently welcomed as one of the newest members of Song Suffragettes, a collective of some of the best and brightest established and rising female artists working in Nashville today.
Bethel and her band maintain a busy performance schedule and have shared the stage with such artists as Smithfield, Canaan Smith, Nine Days, Trisha Yearwood, Charlie Worsham, Buddy Jewell, and many others.
Bethel’s latest single and music video, “Rhinestone Rodeo,” was released in May, 2019. It was premiered online by Billboard, and saw its national television premier on CMT Music in June. “Rhinestone Rodeo” is knocking over barrels from Connecticut to Alaska, supported by Bethel’s current tour of the same name and has exposed the gyspy songstress to thousands of fans across the country. From solo acoustic performances at venues like New York City’s famed Rockwood Music Hall, to full band shows at festivals and influential spaces including Tidball’s in Bowling Green and The City Winery in Nashville, Bethel is mesmerizing audiences with her electric live shows and profound connection to her craft.
"Hannah Bethel sings with a maturity that she will be the first to admit...she's grown into. With each and every lyric of 'Train' you can tell it's a lyric that she has lived...and after all, isn't that what music is all about?"
-Chuck Dauphin, Billboard
"The accomplished singing is as impressive as the fact that she wrote or co-wrote all [of the]fine songs...Well sung and well produced."
- Robert Oermann
